沖泊道(松山)
The winding road between Iwami Ginzan and the ports of Yunotsu and Okidomari passes through mountains and deep forests on its way to the Sea of Japan.
This 14-kilometer road through mountains and forest once connected the Iwami Ginzan silver mine to the ports of Yunotsu and Okidomari on the Sea of Japan coast. Silver traveled this route for about 40 years in the late 16th century before the primary export port shifted. The road remained in use for supplies until the late 1800s. Parts were paved with stone during the Edo period, and you can still see the quarries where that stone was cut along the path. You can walk the entire route from Omori to the coast today, though some sections become difficult after heavy rain.
