Fruits, herbs, and plants from all over the world are grown in the Yakushima Botanical Research Park.
The Yakushima Botanical Research Park grows fruits, herbs, and plants from around the world, taking advantage of the island's high rainfall, rich soil, and subtropical coastal climate. Among the highlights are old banyan trees with extensive aerial roots, dragon fruit, and a large pineapple garden that gives the place an unmistakably tropical character. An observation deck looks out over Trohki Waterfall with Mt. Mocchomu rising behind it. Opening hours are 8:30 am to 5:30 pm from March through September, and 8:30 am to 5:00 pm from October through February, with last entry 30 minutes before closing each period.
