Takasago Ginza Shopping Arcade
market
高砂銀座商店街
The Takasago Ginza Shopping Arcade has roots going back to the Edo period, when blacksmiths set up workshops here, eventually drawing merchants, teahouses, and other businesses to the area. With the opening of Takasago Station in 1926, the arcade became a thriving commercial street. Trade slowed considerably after the station closed in 1984, and some shops shut. Today the covered arcade has found new life through its retro atmosphere, attracting visitors drawn to the feel of an older commercial Japan. A monthly market on the third Saturday brings together sellers of local products and people curious about the arcade's layered history.
