高橋家
The Takahashi House sits just off the road to the Ryugenji mine shaft.
The Takahashi family's prominent position near the Ryugenji mine shaft reflects the role they played at Iwami Ginzan. In 1839, family head Takahashi Tomisaburo was appointed liaison between the mining companies and the government magistrate's office, a post that involved managing licenses, overseeing silver output, and mediating disputes. The influence and income that came with the position allowed the family to build one of the largest homes in the area, completed around 1860. The compound includes a main house facing the road, a garden teahouse, and a detached cottage at the back. The house is not currently open to the public, but it gives a clear sense of how wealth was distributed among those who managed one of Japan's most important historic silver mines.
