Shirogane-jinja Shrine
shrine
白銀神社
Established in the Nara period (710-794), this shrine on Cape Shiroganezaki is regarded as a “power spot,” a place of great natural beauty that has rejuvenating and energizing effects.
Shirogane-jinja sits at the tip of Cape Shiroganezaki, reached by a forest road that was once a hunting ground for the Date daimyo family. A moss-covered stone torii and old stone lanterns carved with deer motifs mark the approach to the main building, which visitors can enter. Inside the vermilion walls are works of traditional art thought to date to the Edo period. A hiking trail continues past the shrine to a promontory with views of the Pacific, and on clear days the sacred island of Kinkasan is visible in the distance. The shrine is regarded as a power spot, a place where the natural surroundings are said to be quietly energizing.
