大相撲三月場所 (エディオンアリーナ大阪)
The March Grand Tournament at EDION Arena Osaka. Fifteen days of ancient Shinto-rooted ceremony, ritual salt, and 150-kilogram wrestlers colliding at full force.
The Osaka Haru Basho is one of six annual grand sumo tournaments held across Japan, running for fifteen days every March at EDION Arena Osaka (formerly Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium) in the Namba district. Sumo is far more than a wrestling match. Each bout is preceded by ritual: wrestlers toss purifying salt into the ring, stomp to drive away evil spirits, and face off in a series of psychological staredowns before the referee's fan signals the charge. The lower divisions fight in the morning to a sparse but knowledgeable crowd. By late afternoon the arena fills for the top-ranked makuuchi wrestlers, and the energy shifts completely. Box seats (masu-seki) put you close enough to feel the impact. Chair seats on the upper level still deliver the full atmosphere. General admission (jiyuseki) tickets go on sale each morning at the venue around 8:00 AM, first come first served, and are the most accessible option for visitors without advance tickets. The surrounding Namba area means you are steps from Dotonbori for post-tournament chanko nabe, the hearty stew that fuels the wrestlers themselves.
