Nagasaki Peace Park
park
平和公園
Tranquil memorial park commemorating the atomic bombing of August 9, 1945, featuring the iconic 10-meter Peace Statue.
Established in 1955 on the ground above where the atomic bomb detonated on August 9, 1945, killing tens of thousands in moments. The park's most recognizable feature is sculptor Seibo Kitamura's 10-meter Peace Statue, with one hand raised toward the ongoing threat of nuclear weapons and the other extended in a gesture of peace. The Fountain of Peace below it commemorates those who died searching for water in the aftermath. Hypocenter Park, at a lower level, marks the exact point of detonation with a black stone monolith, accompanied by preserved debris and a layer of exposed soil from the day of the bombing.
