Misogi is a Shinto purification ritual conducted in the natural and historic setting of Shirayama-Hime Shrine.
Shinto purification ritual conducted at Shirayama-Hime Shrine, using water that has filtered through the rock of sacred Mt. Hakusan over centuries. Guided by the shrine's priests, participants wade into a pond, recite purification prayers, and perform the ritual movements. The ceremony runs roughly two and a half hours and accommodates groups of five to forty people. Fees are 4,000 yen per participant plus a separate charge for ritual clothing. Men wear a white fundoshi and women wear a white kimono, available to rent or purchase. Reservations are required at least one week in advance by contacting the Hakusan City Tourism League, with same-day reservations sometimes possible for larger groups.
