竈門神社
Kamado Shrine is dedicated to the female deity Tamayori-hime.
Dedicated to Tamayori-hime, a female deity associated with romantic fortune, Kamado Shrine has drawn worshippers for over 1,350 years. During the seventh to twelfth centuries, Japanese emissaries departing for the Asian continent would stop here to pray for safe passage across the sea. The main shrine building was renovated in 2013 using Japanese cypress, the same material as the original. Mt. Homan rises behind the shrine, positioned northeast of Dazaifu to guard against evil spirits traditionally said to approach from that direction. The mountain is also a sacred site for Shugendo, a folk religion rooted in mountain worship involving long endurance and ascetic practice.
