別府地獄めぐり
Hidden Minamiaso hot springs blending tradition and novelty, three separate hillside baths.
Jigoku Onsen sits in the Minamiaso area near Mt. Aso, offering a different kind of onsen experience from the region's more commercial baths. The main draw is Suzume no Yu, a natural hot spring where you soak directly in the source water, rather than in a pool filled from it. The adjacent Tarutama Onsen complex, centered on a waterfall called Kinryu no Taki, has large communal baths, private baths, and rest areas. Geothermal steam vents let you cook local vegetables and eggs yourself. Both facilities are set in forested surroundings that feel genuinely rural, and the slower pace suits visitors looking to decompress rather than tick off another attraction.
