福島県立博物館
Fukushima Prefecture’s rich history is showcased in the beautifully curated exhibits at this museum, located a short walk from Tsuruga Castle.
A short walk from Tsuruga Castle in Aizu, this museum covers Fukushima Prefecture's history from Yayoi rice cultivation through the Boshin War and into the 20th century. The section on the 1868 civil war is detailed, including examples of imported British firearms used against the Aizu samurai who fought for the shogunate. One of the more unexpected displays is a full-size replica of a charcoal-powered bus from World War II, when gasoline was rationed. The museum has comprehensive English signage and a guidebook available on request. There is also a cafe with views of Tsuruga Castle Park.
