旧山村家住宅
The Former Yamamura Family Residence faces Honmachi-suji street and comprises two main houses, two storehouses, and a small tea room.
Facing Honmachi-suji street in Hagi, this late-Edo-period merchant estate includes two main houses, two storehouses, and a small tea room. The Yamamura family bought it in the early Meiji era as their salt-trading wealth grew, adding buildings and eventually donating the property to Hagi City in 2005. The layout follows omoteya-zukuri style, with a genkan-niwa garden courtyard separating the front shop from the residential rooms. It is the only surviving example of this architectural form west of the Kansai region, and admission is free.
